At the end of the day the soldier is loyal to the mission and not their own ideals. If I can do a body slam then fine, but I'll take a human shield as well. I'll equip a lethal gun because it's quicker then the tranq and do what I have to do make it out. If that means a quick knife to the throat then so be it. Then I'll use what ever means necessary to clear out immediate enemies and evade them. I'll go non-lethal or bypass the enemy altogether until I'm caught. So I translated this into the way I play and I feel it's rewarding in it's own way. They just inadvertently acquired the skills by completing their objectives by other means. This is how they came to be so good at sneaking missions. They followed their orders but maybe didn't see the point of needlessly killing a non-immediate threat. Big Boss, and by extension Solid Snake, have more respect for enemy combatants than the average grunt. What I came up with I think makes the most logical sense. Second time through I actually thought about this. Playing through the first time I didn't really pay attention to killing enemies. Do you guys think a non-lethal playthrough will be rewarded in TPP? Because maybe it's not what Big Boss would have done at that point. I suppose this may be because he's going insane, and he really isn't the Snake he was before.

It just didn't seem like the Snake I know. The bloodstained face, stabbing Eli, smiling with the knife, and most of all, when he shoots those guys who look like they're on his side. So when I watched the new trailer for MGS5, I was stunned at how malicious Snake was. (Also when this happens in MGS4, and Snake vomits.) This is also touched upon in MGS1, when Liquid says "You enjoy all the killing, that's why," and Snake gets really defensive. I've always thought that Snake was the kind of person that doesn't kill people when he has the option not to, but maybe that's just due to the way I play. And of course, if you want, you can go guns blazing and murder every enemy soldier you come across. In the Mother Base destruction scene in GZ, you also see him shooting at enemy combatants. However, in most of the cutscenes, you see Snake carrying around and using a lethal weapon, like the 1911 in MGS3 or the Operator in MGS4.

(Meaning that Big Boss would refrain from killing enemy soldiers.) (Or FOXHOUND in MGS3) Now, my interpretation of this is that you handled the mission in much the same way that Big Boss would have. Now, most of you know that if you go through the MGS games without killing anybody, or getting any alerts, among other requirements, you get the "Big Boss" codename.
